Iznik Tiles
Iznik tiles bring back memories of traveling Turkey.
From Istanbul, we ventured to Ankara, toured Hattusa
drove with our good-natured guides though Cappadocia
Konya, Pamukkale, onto the west coast and Ephesus
up the coast to Bursa and back to Istanbul before stopping
at the ancient site of Troy. It was snowing and bitter cold
as we briskly walked the ancient ruins imagining the events
that might have taken place among those lichen-covered stones.
The day ended sharing the wood burning stove with the park’s
grounds keepers, no one speaking the others language but
knowing the comfort of shared warmth and laughter.
Unlike Homer where “Any moment might be your last”
or Yeats,’ “A sudden blow: the great wings beating,” I struggle
to write in affection, “to dwell in possibility.”
