“Homage to Bleriot” Robert Delaunay (1914)

Lollipops

The homage to the French painter Bleriot
evokes a certain sweetness with the use of colorful
swirls like hard candy on a stick, rainbow lollipops.
Pinwheels of colors on a whirl seen at the most festive
times like fairs, parties and celebrations invite the viewer
into a world of dizzy yellows and reds and blues in the shape
of the circle or semi-circle, curves or bends, the arc, the arch
shapes associated with doorways or porticos, in other words, openings.
Wise is the poet who knows when to use form and color to say
“they were delicious, so sweet and so cold.”
